There are a few instances where lithographer A. Hoen reproduced a poster originally published in Forbes magazine. This poster is one such example, used in the magazine in 1885. In the Hoen version, using the same artwork, but with altered text, was added the heading "Buffalo Bill's Wild West Congress of the Rough Riders of the World" and the title "An American." While the first was obvious, the second addition has been the subject of speculation. Was it because of the movement to see the Indian as the original tenant of America, or was it simply a way of adding this accomplished horseman to the list of Rough Riders? To this day, no one knows. Originally printed in 1894 by A. Hoen, Baltimore, Maryland. We offer this 21" x 16" poster as a little piece of history.
